Sexist Advertaising

Starting with a new topic, we started to study the stereotypes that we have in our society.

A easy way of seeing some examples is watching some adverts. At first sight, probably we don't get them easily but there are more that we can imagine.

With three of my classmates, we studied one of the adverts that we had watched.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2EAqcOUJfE

This advert is for men and it shows that this deodorant is a way for attracting women.
In the advert there is only visual language.
It takes places in different moments in history.
The women role here is like they were an object. The only woman that appears is young, beautiful, thin and tall. She represents the purity, the beuaty and the innocence.
The men role is the most important in the advert. The only one who appears is tall, good-looking, strong and he is so in love with the beuaty of the woman. He represents that animal spirit all men have when they see a beautiful woman.

Conclusion about Love

Last week we've been working on a new topic: LOVE

We talked about some ideas (like jealousy, if you should change because of a person...) and gave our opinion about them and at the end, in groups of three or four we made a conclusion.

This is what my gorup think about love:

We think that in any relationship there will be always a bit of jealousy, but we have to be careful with that. If you can control them because you trust your couple, that's okay. But, the problem starts when you or your couple don't want to see each other talking to different people or when you don't want to see him/her with a particular type of clothing.
We also think that there will be arguements where someone has to give up even though it's not his/her opinion. But this arguements never have to get into a real fight where one of them hits the other.
Obviously, if you are in a relationship, don't let the other person changes you because first of all, you have to love yourself no matter what, and, secondly, because your couple fell in love with you and the way you are, so change, for example, the colour of your hair shouldn't be a problem.

Conclusion about an Inside out World

After talking about LOVE and work a bit on that topic, we read an article written in 70s where all the roles were changed. It was about a man who was asking for a job in a company where all the employees and the boss were women. This man was the man of the house.

Our teacher told us to do another conclusion and this is ours:

Nowadays, however we think things have changed a lot, the haven't. Although now we know everyone can do any type of job, there still being some differences betwwen men and women: it's more unlikely for a woman to become a boss in a company, they get less money than men when they have the same position, etc.

My picture for this is:

This is what the front camera can do.

Impossible poses

On magazines, on social media like instagram or twitter we can see everyday lots of pictures about models wearing clothes, posing with a fragance, etc. But sometimes we don't really pay attention to their poses, because some of them are a little bit weird.

In class we watched a video of some women copying some magazine poses in the middle of the street and people reactions are completely different to the way they react when they see that pose on a magazine.

I searched some impossible poses:

This girl is Maria Borges. She is from Angola.

This is Lily Aldridge. She is from California and she is one of the Victoria's Secret Angels.

In my house there is a little kitten that can also do these impossible poses:

Pelotonia

The last project that we've done in this term talks about NGOs. We did it in partners and Marina and me decided to talk about Pelotonia.

Here you have some information about it:

Founded in 2008, Pelotonia was established with the objective to fund life-saving cancer research. The model of Pelotonia remains simple: Pelotonia’s operating expenses are covered by generous funding partners so that 100% of every dollar raised by Pelotonia Riders, Virtual Riders and Volunteers goes directly to fund cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Pelotonia is a three-day experience that includes a weekend of cycling, entertainment and volunteerism. In its first six rides, Pelotonia raised more than $82 million for cancer research. Thanks to its generous funding partners, Pelotonia is able to direct 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar to cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute

The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute is the patient-care component of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. The James is a transformational facility that fosters the collaboration and integration of cancer research and clinical cancer care. The James is the largest cancer hospital in the Midwest and the third largest in the nation.

August 6, 2014) – Pelotonia, the grassroots fundraiser with One Goal End Cancer, is projecting more than 7,000 riders and 2,500 volunteers this year, surpassing the 6,723 riders and 2,300 volunteers who participated in 2013.
Traveling from 41 states and five different countries, the record-breaking number of riders is expected to raise more than $19 million, which would bring the overall fundraising total to more than $86 million
Based on ridership, Pelotonia is the largest single-event cycling fundraiser benefitting cancer research in the United States. Riders make a commitment to raise a minimum of $1,200 to $2,200 for cancer research based on their route choice.
Pelotonia donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center
Along the 180-mile route, more than 2,500 volunteers will support riders by providing snacks, beverages, first aid assistance and bike maintenance services alongside thousands of supporters cheering riders throughout their ride.

Idea Grants

It is unlikely that a cure for cancer will come from one scientist. Instead, it will be through team science that we will get new answers and treatments. With this in mind, the Pelotonia Research Award Program provided two-year “idea” grants that enable creative teams of scientists at Ohio State to embark on research that could lead to discoveries resulting in better treatments and prevention strategies.

The Pelotonia Fellowship Program

The Pelotonia Fellowship Program trains promising and accomplished undergraduate, graduate, medical and postdoctoral students from any discipline at Ohio State who have the potential to become independent cancer researchers. The Fellowship Program started in 2010 and to date has awarded 292 student fellowships through an annual allocation of 2 million in Pelotonia revenue for this program. Scholarship recipients so far include:
  • 129 undergraduates
  • 77 graduates
  • 4 medical students
  • 61 postdoctoral fellows
21 international scholars
Programs include a fellowship program, funding student researchers; idea grants, funding teams of faculty researchers; new laboratory instrumentation; and recruitment and retention of some of the world’s best cancer researchers and programs.

VICTORIA’S SECRET ANGELS SWEAT IT OUTTO END CANCER

Victoria’s Secret Angels Elsa Hosk, Jac Jagaciak, Jasmine Tookes, Lais Ribeiro, Martha Hunt, and Romee Strijd hosted the annual Supermodel Cycle to benefit Pelotonia – an annual grassroots bike tour that raises funds for cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center

Each year, more than 6,000 cyclists descend upon Columbus, Ohio to ride for cancer research—a mix of cancer survivors, experienced cyclists, and many riding in honor of loved ones.
The Supermodel Cycle ride to support Pelotonia took place at SoulCycle’s West Village location. 100% of the proceeds were donated directly to Pelotonia to support Ohio State’s world renowned Cancer Research.

And here is the prezi that we've made:

Human Rights

The second project we made is about the Human Rights . There are 30 rights and we divided them up between all theb studients. Some of us made 2 rights.
The rights that I chose were number 24 and 27 and they talk about:

ARTICLE 24

Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay.

She is Chanel, my kitten. She is sleeping so, even though she is an animal, she is exercising her right to rest.

ARTICLE 27

Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.
Everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary  or artistic production of which he is the author.
